Under-13 girls make flying start in league match at Andover
TEAM Kennet finished a close second in the in the Wessex Young Athletes Track and Field League meeting at Andover.
In a close match the Yellow, Blue and White Vests narrowly missed out on a match win, finishing just behind Waverley AC, but won three out of the six age group wins.
Waverley scored 366 points, followed by Team Kennet (354.4), Radley (320), Fleet (310), Andover (180) and Poole AC (161.5).
The under-13 girls showed their depth with a convincing age group win, started on the track with the 70m hurdles with Elodie Burdett coming 4th A string in 18.1, while Ella Parsons won the B string in 16.4,
The 1500m saw a great solo run from Penelope Lyth clinch victory in 5.33.6 and team mate Elodie Burdett secured a B string win in 5.45.1.
The sprints fared well for Team Kennet, Matilda Clare coming second in the 200m with 29.4 and Orlagh Stratford taking 3rd in the B string (30.9).
The 4 x 100m relay quartet of O Straford, Clare, Lyth and Ladds ran superbly to win in 58.6, while the non-scoring 4x100m quartet of A Stratford, Millie Barlow, Ayla Wyvill and Mahoney won their race in 65.0.
On the field, Isla Ladds showed her strength to win the long jump with a leap of 4.09m and Clare won the B event (3.97m).
In the high jump, both girls cleared 1.10m, Orlagh Stratford taking second in the A and Masie McCurtin winning the B.
The throws always secure TK high points, and this was so in the shot as another double win came from Affra Bailey (5.59m) and Ayla Wyvill (4.61).
Clare won her javelin with 20.47m and two second places came from Isla Ladds 18.19m and Penelope Lyth 9.58m in the discus.
The under-15 girls also took a convincing win in their age group with a double coming in the high jump through Jess McCurtin (1.30m) and Ella Cronk (1.25m).
Cronk surprised herself by taking second in the shot (8.47m), while in the long jump Emerald Hill Sawyer won the B event with 4.45.
The track picked up massive points. arriet Saunders won her 1500m by over 100m in 5.05.20, and in the 800m a double win came from Olivia Bentley (2.31.4) and Jess McCurtin (2.40.7).
And in the 100m Payne was third in the A (13.4) with Hill Sawyer taking second place in the B in 13.9.
The 4 x 100m relay team of Payne, Hill Sawyer, McCurtin and Bentley saw them finish second in 56.4.
The under-15 boys are also very strong this year, and in Berkay Altuntas won the shot with a throw of 9.09m and newcomer Oscar Hook took the B string with 9.07m.
Both boys teamed up for another double in the discus – Altuntas 33.35m and Hook 27.00m – and Noah Lauder-Clarke won the javelin with 39.19 and Josh Ladds taking 2nd B string with 26.95.
Lauder Clarke secured another win in the 300m 43.3 with Ladds taking second in the B string in 48.6.
Harry Smith came second in his 1500m with 4.59.4 and the 4x100m relay quartet of Lauder-Clarke, Ladds, Brian and Hueglas ran a superb relay to place second in 54.2.
The under-17 men saw only two boys turn up for the club.
Turkay Altuntas won the Shot with 11.68m and was second in the discus, while, Theo Nightingale was second in the high jump (1.70m).
The under-17 girls were third in their age group, and a double win came in the high jump with Leilah Gaye 1.40 and Amber Stiles 1.30.
In the shot Zoe Dickson was second in the A string (7.44m) and Suki Humphreys won the B string (6.72m).
The discus saw the same results with Dickson throwing 23.17 and Humphreys 19.85, Dickson came 2nd in her Javelin 15.48,
Finally the under 13 Boys saw only three boys turn out and Jenson Nichols made his mark by winning the 100m in 13.4 and the javelin with 33.63m.
Alfie Cronk came second in the A discus (14.08m) and won the B shot (6.57m), with Nichols coming second in the A (7.83m).
Josh Bailey came a good second in the 1500m 5.38.3.
