Local boxer Rocky Golby continues rise as he claims Home Counties Junior Cadet title
Local boxer Rocky Golby has become Home Counties Junior Cadet Champion.
At the Home Counties Junior Championships, held in Carterton last month, he beat Ethan Gray of Hoddesdon Boxing to win the title.
Six weeks prior, he had lost to Gray via split decision, suffering a chest infection which put him in hospital during his preparations.
This time though, he won via unanimous decision, qualifying him to box in the next stage back in Carterton on 9th March.
The 15-year-old of Turnpike in Newbury has been boxing for three years, and is a former Home Counties School Boys Champion.
The Trinity School pupil enjoyed success with Thames Valley Amateur Boxing Club, before moving on to Didcot Boxing Academy.
Rocky is also Home Counties Box Cup Champion, a Bristol Box Cup bronze medallist and a Hull Box Cup silver medallist.
He’s also boxed on the Isle of Man, representing the Home Counties.
For the rest of the year, Rocky will be entering as many box cups and championships as possible.
His dream is to box internationally one day.
