Robinson looks to summer after tough Easter weekend for Hungerford Town
Hungerford Town had a tricky Easter Weekend as they faced off against a pair of tough opponents.
Good Friday saw a competitive match, as the Crusaders hosted Wimborne Town.
Kyle Tooze converted a Curtis Angell cross to put his side 1-0 up, but an equaliser with nine minutes left saw Wimborne steal a point.
Monday saw Hungerford in action again, as they travelled to Merthyr Town, who needed just one point to seal the title.
Tooze was pivotal again, although this time it was his red card after half an hour which impacted the game most of all.
From here the Welsh outfit cruised to a 3-0 victory, leaving Hungerford seventh with a game to go.
They’ll host Dorchester on Saturday, a match which could have been a play-off showdown had things gone differently over Easter.
“We should have won the Wimborne game to be honest,” said manager Danny Robinson.
“We should have been out of sight in the first-half.
“I’ll hold my hands up, I made the wrong substitutions at the wrong time.
“It took the momentum out of the game and we got punished for it.”
Hungerford went a man down on Easter Monday, but Robinson has no complaints regarding the decision.
“It was a stonewall sending off for me,” he admitted.
“We can’t hide from that.
“It was late and it was high. A deserved red card.
“But the attitude and application was outstanding.
“I was pleased… key moments of the game didn’t go for us.”
Robinson’s mind is already on next season, as the Hungerford gaffer looks to craft a squad fit for a play-off push.
George Smith, Matt Berry-Hargreaves and Louis McGrory have all committed for next season, with more to come.
“I feel a majority will stay,” he said.
“I’ve started trying to wheel and deal.
“We know where we need to strengthen, add in a couple of key areas.
“I want to keep hold of the bulk of this squad.
“There’s no individuals, they’re a team.
“Last summer I went too individual, people who are brilliant footballers.
“But part of the Hungerford DNA is a hard-working ethos.
“That’s what I’ve got to add, people who will buy into that.
“Can they complement what we’ve already got here?”
