Rafa Ramos strikes twice as Hungerford town win away at Plymouth Parkway

Hungerford Town manager Danny Robinson was glad the trip down to Plymouth was worthwhile.

Hungerford beat Plymouth Parkway 2-0 on Saturday, thanks to a brace from striker Rafa Ramos.

“It was a hell of a journey,” he reflected.

“It was a tough place to go last year… we were hammered there!

“But once again to a man we were fantastic.

“We fully deserved it and I thought the defence was absolutely outstanding.

“They gave us a big platform to build from.”

Ramos’ brace came on his full debut for the club, with the 29-year-old making a game changing impact down in Devon.

“He played well when he came on against Gloucester, and that’s what got him the start,” he explained.

“It takes a bit of time when you join a new club.

“He was outstanding on Saturday, not just the two goals but the work rate, the off the ball work was absolutely brilliant.”

A 2-0 win keeps Hungerford in the play-off fight, but they’ll be without Louis McGrory for their clash with Winchester on Saturday.

He was given a second yellow for time wasting. A decision which sparked controversy.

“It was the official’s fault completely,” he said.

“He’s jogged to take a corner with another player.

“The ref said he was wasting time and sent him off, then let Plymouth have a sub!

“The referee wasn’t good.

“I always say they have the hardest job in football, but I’m saying that every other week now.

“He apologised afterwards for sending him off.

“It’s not Louis McGrory’s fault. That’s squarely on the referee.”

Last week saw two new arrivals, as defender Max Ram returned to the club and midfielder Toby Stephens also joined.

“We had Max on loan from Wycombe in our National League South days,” he said.

“We might have lost Luke Softley for the rest of the season with a knee problem.

“It’s with a view for next season and we’re delighted.

“It's a tremendous signing for us.”

Hungerford host Winchester City on Non-League Day this Saturday.

“It’s where I started my journey as a coach,” he recalled.

“They’ve had a tricky season but they’ve got cracking players.

“It is going to be hard because they’re fighting for their lives.

“It’s going to be a hell of a game, we have to be at it.”
