Charlotte Payne and Ben East continue progress at European Throwing Cup in Cyprus
There were strong results for two local throwers at the European Throwing Cup in Cyprus at the weekend.
Ben East and Charlotte Payne headed to the Mediterranean island in hopes of continuing their positive starts to the 2025 season.
There was a fine margin between East and a podium finish, but the young athlete gave it his all in the Men’s U23 Javelin Throw.
East finished fourth in Nicosia with an effort of 73.41m, just 45cm behind Ireland’s Oisin Joyce in third.
The top two finishers had to throw personal bests to make it to the top of the podium.
Payne went one step further to seal a podium finish in the Women’s Hammer Throw.
She threw a season’s best with her final attempt of the day, reaching 67.51m in the B final.
This was good enough for third, just 84 centimetres behind Spaniard Laura Redondo and 2.99m behind winner Ewa Różańska of Poland.
These results reinforce what has been a positive start for the pair.
Back at the start of March, Payne took gold in the hammer throw at the 2025 Winter Long Throws Championships in Loughborough.
Meanwhile, East took gold in the javelin throw thanks to a 73.50m effort.
