Mixed fortunes for Newbury Football Club as Burghfield cruise to big win in Thames Valley Premier League
A busy week saw Newbury Football Club secure another draw before a tough loss on Saturday.
On Wednesday evening the Thames Valley Premier League’s bottom side hosted Reading City U23s at Faraday Road.
They held the twelfth placed side to a 0-0 draw, earning their sixth point of the season.
Saturday brought a tougher test, as the side travelled to title chasers Maidenhead Town.
Newbury were beaten 7-0, thanks to a Joe Park hat-trick and goals from Mitchell Burley, William Donnelly, Reece Probert and Jason Joe Evans.
Newbury have now drawn three times this campaign, winning once while losing eighteen of their 22 matches.
Elsewhere in the division, Burghfield enjoyed a convincing win away to Slough Heating Laurencians on Saturday.
James Core was sent off for the hosts at Slough Polish Club, while Uchenna Ojukwu scored for Slough.
Burghfield weren’t to be stopped though, as they stormed to a 4-1 win thanks to goals from Harry Peters, William Vallins, Rhys Iremonger and Oliver Brown.
The win leaves Burghfield up in fourth, just one point behind Holyport Reserves in third, although they have played three games more than the side above them.
Tadley Calleva Reserves also had a busy week.
They drew 1-1 with Slough Heating Laurencians on Wednesday thanks to Cameron George’s goal.
On Saturday they beat AFC Winkfield 2-1 at Barlow’s Park to rise to sixth in the division.
In Division One things are all wrapped up.
Champions Goring sealed the title last week, but haven’t taken their foot off the gas.
They smashed Maidenhead Town Reserves 4-1 to maintain their ten point advantage at the top.
Josh Monk scored a brace, while Matthew Hayden and Christopher Pocock got a goal each.
Elsewhere, a 1-0 loss for Burghfield Reserves away to Wokingham Town Reserves leaves them third from bottom.
