Maisie sets the championship pace

Under 13 breaks a brace of records at Berkshire track event

MAISIE Jeger set the pace as Newbury AC’s under 13s produced some impressive performances in the Berkshire Track and Field Championships at Bracknell’s John Nike Stadium.

She stormed clear from the gun to streak around the 600 metres in a time of 1 minute 40.1 seconds that shattered the championship record by two seconds and her own club record by four seconds.
It placed her eighth on the UK all-time list for the under 13 age group, with the likes of Jenny Meadows and Jess Judd only just ahead of her.
Maisie Jeger also showed great composure to come straight off the track and claim the silver medal in the long jump with a leap of 4.38 metres, going on to finish fourth in the shot to look certain of
representing Berkshire at the Under 13s Inter-County Championship to be held in Richmond later this month.
Marcus Chitty clocked 1:46.6 to break the under 13 boys 600m club record of 1:48.4 set by Adam Inglut in 1998. He and Jeger have another year to compete in the age group.
Charlotte Clover went straight to the front and stayed there in the 3000 metres as she knocked four seconds off Jackie Cooper’s under 17 women’s club record set in 1980.
She was timed at 10:33.5 and now holds the club’s under 15 and 17 records over the distance.
