Julie is a golden girl again
The Overton and Basingstoke Taekwondo Club member had claimed gold and bronze last year and this time out was in the individual section of the K1 first senior female division in which she had to perform two Poomsae, demonstrating accuracy, power and discipline in fighting techniques.
The 27-year old was the first to compete against athletes from top clubs around the country and had to be assessed by five judges before being dismissed from the ring and having to watch her competitors follow suit.
But the nerve-wracking wait was worthwhile when her score remained unchallenged as she collected her gold medal. .
“I ran and hugged my coach Coleen Reilly,” she said. “I have faced a lot of adversity and have fought my way back so it was a proud moment.”
She also paid tribute to her club coach Gerry Reilly and the technical director of France, Master Lee Won Sik, with whom she trains each summer.
