Jack is so sharp at World Championships

Fatherly advice - and eye tests - help marksman to success

SHOOTING champion Gary Alexander turned manager and led his own son Jack to win the Under 25 Long Range Shooting world title in the USA last week.

The store director at Specsavers in Newbury was managed the under 25 and 21 teams at the International Confederation of Fullbore Rifle Associations World Championships in Camp Perry, where his son won the under 25 title over a course of three days at 800, 900 and 1,000 yards.

His score of 590 put him clear of fellow Britons Chlo Evans and Gareth Davies with Australian and American shooters filling the three next places.

Jack had success for Ireland in last year’s Commonwealth Games and his father, also a British and Irish international, said: “I’ve been a shooter for Great Britain and coach for many years, specialising in the visual correction of shooter’s eyesight.

“The shooter’s sight picture in Camp Perry is renowned for its difficulty, so it was vital for Jack and the shooters to have effective eyecare so they could perform to the best of their ability.

“I’m so proud that I can call my son a world champion We’re already looking ahead to the next Commonwealth Games in Australia. We can’t wait for the next challenge!’
