Goring United seal promotion to Thames Valley Premier League

Goring United have secured promotion to the Thames Valley Premier League.

They hosted Mortimer Reserves on Saturday afternoon at the Gardiner Recreation Ground, knowing that they had a chance to seal the title.

They won 2-1 thanks to an early Matthew Hayden strike and Tom Heslop’s second-half goal.

This win saw them pull out a ten point gap on second place Wokingham Town Reserves, meaning that Goring could not be caught at the top.

United have been dominant in Division One this season, winning thirteen of their seventeen games so far.

They’ve scored 41 goals and conceded only 23.

Hayden has been a vital part of this run, scoring eleven times in eighteen appearances.

Sullivan Akers and Harry Voice each bagged seven, while Tom Heslop scored a respectable six of his own.

They’ll now step up to the Thames Valley Premier League next season.

One side they’ll be replacing is Newbury FC, who continued their season to forget last week.

They lost 4-2 to Tadley Calleva Reserves in midweek, the side they were promoted with last season.

Bradley Pagliaroli scored twice for Newbury, but Tadley established dominance at Barlow’s Park.

Cameron George scored a brace for the hosts, while Tiago Moreno and Lors Nicholas got one each.

Newbury sit rooted to the bottom of the Premier Division on five points.
