Blues undone at Witney
Tight rearguard opened five times while Hungerford concede even more in Tadley debry
NEWBURY BLUES dropped into fifth spot in South West One East after going down 31-8 at ‘bogey’ side Witney on Saturday.
Blues had conceded only 48 points all season going into the game, and they started well with a Ryan Trevaskis penalty giving them the lead before Matt Clarke’s two penalties and a Jamie Burke try put Witney ahead, Tom Sanders touching down to leave Blues in close contact at 11-8 down at the interval.
But the home side took charge with the wind behind them after the re-start and tries from Burke again, George Lane, Arrun Lambourne and Rhys Morgan - none of the converted - saw Witney through to a bonus point and Blues to their first blank of the campaign.
The weather hit other fixtures, but Hungerford were hit by a Tadley Tigers tornado as they crashed 76-3 at Red Lane in the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Premier Division.
