Yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office ahead of Storm Bert’s arrival in the UK this weekend
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning ahead of Storm Bert’s arrival in the district this weekend.
Heavy rain associated with Storm Bert may cause some travel disruption and flooding throughout the south of England on Saturday and Sunday.
The Met Office has stated that heavy rainfall will affect most of the country this weekend, with rain and strong wind expected to develop during Saturday morning across south west and southern England, becoming particularly heavy and persistent overnight and into Sunday.
It has warned residents that there will be a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses, as well as a small chance that properties could be flooded.
If flooding does occur, it is likely there will be cancellations and delays to train and bus services, and it will create difficulty driving conditions and some road closures.
A Met Office spokesperson said: “Check if your property could be at risk of flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.
“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.
“People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.
“Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
