Thatcham woman to brave shave for charity Sue Ryder

A Thatcham woman is braving the shave on behalf of her late mother, who died of cancer.

“Mum said she wanted to shave her head, when she got the diagnosis and whilst she didn't get to do it, I am going to do it in her honour,” said Sarah Jones.

“Mum said I was crazy to do it, but what else would she expect from her wild, middle child?”

Her mother, Jane Stringall, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in April and spent her last moments with her family at home before she died on June 28.

It was during this time that charity Sue Ryder “scooped” the family up and guided them through what was a difficult time.

“Mum was incredibly grateful for the support she received from nurses and care workers," added Mrs Jones. "I felt like I needed to do something to give back.

“Sue Ryder scooped us up and told us what we needed to do, when you are faced with that you need help. Raising money will allow them to do that again for someone else in that position.”

She added: “My 15-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter are excited to watch but it will be strange for them to get used to it as I have always had shoulder length hair.

“I am excited though. This is what I wanted to do to prove how amazing [mum] was.

“Everyone said that I have got the best mum.”

Mrs Jones will take to the Thatcham Broadway on Saturday (August 27) at 2pm and hand the scissors to anyone who wishes to have a snip.
