Mortimer voted the best place to live in West Berkshire

Mortimer has been voted the second best place to live in Berkshire, according to readers of a lifestyle website.

Users of the Muddy Stilettos site voted for villages and towns they rated highly in terms of sense of community, quality of access to schools, restaurants, shops and culture.

The website West Berkshire Villagers says of Mortimer: “The village enjoys a wide range of amenities and services in a compact area central to the village, with The Fairground and grazing area being the focal point.

“Access to all that Mortimer has to offer where there are shops, junior school, post office, doctors, dentist, public houses and cafes on your doorstep as well as excellent access to the nearby motorway networks and Mortimer Railway Station.”

Other West Berkshire places that made the top 10 were Pangbourne (fourth), Yattendon (sixth) and Hungerford (seventh).

Caversham, in Reading, won the top spot in Berkshire.
