Waterstones to re-open in Newbury this weekend

Drinks reception being held at Parkway store tonight

BOOK lovers are invited to the launch of Waterstone's new store in Newbury.

The national bookseller will officially open in the Parkway shopping centre this weekend having closed its shop in Northbrook Street last month.

Customers can attend an evening drinks reception as they browse the new shop tonight (Thursday, June 4) from 5pm to 8pm. There’ll also be the opportunity to sample cakes from Kintbury bakery Cocochoux who will be supplying the bookshop’s 'W' café.

The shop will be officially declared open in a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon on Saturday, June 6 with a Peter Rabbit Family Fun Day.

From 10am to 2pm children will be able to enjoy bunny-themed story times and appearances from the much loved Beatrix Potter character and join in rabbit-themed crafts and games.

The store will offer free wi-fi and the shop’s Cafe will serve pastries and cakes from Newbury's Hethertons Bakery and Cocochoux.

All staff from the Northbrook Street store, which is becoming a Metro Bank, are transferring to the Parkway store, which will trade from over 2800 sq ft over one floor.

Waterstones manager Annie Gibb-Cohen said: “We’re thrilled to be opening a brand new bookshop in Newbury. My team have delighted in the task of carefully selecting our ranges of books and with the stunning new bookshelf design our bookshop is a real pleasure to browse.

"The café is the perfect place to relax with the family and to meet friends and catch up over a coffee. We are really looking forward to sharing our lovely shop with everyone in Newbury.”
