The George & Horn pub in Kingsclere sold to new owners for £425,000
A village pub has been sold for nearly a half a million pounds, with the new owners planning to make it “a central hub for both locals and visitors”.
The George & Horn is a Grade II-listed pub at the corner of George Street and Basingstoke Road in Kingsclere that was built in the 17th century.
Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co facilitated the sale of the pub to Uncles G&H Ltd for an asking price of £425,000.
The former owners of The George & Horn commented: “We are delighted to have found a buyer who appreciates the unique charm and potential of The George & Horn.
“We are confident they will continue to build on the pub's success and serve the local community well.”
Christie & Co described the pub thus: “Situated on Basingstoke Road, the characterful pub comprises a bar and restaurant, 10 ensuite letting bedrooms, and a one-bedroom owners’ apartment.
“The George & Horn is well-known for serving traditional pub food and Sunday roasts, attracting good local trade as well as visitors exploring the nearby Downs or travelling to Newbury Racecourse.”
Uncles G&H Ltd is based at the Bramley Inn, an independent pub in Bramley that hosts regular quizzes, live music acts and has pool and darts.
A company spokesperson said: “We are excited to take over The George & Horn and look forward to bringing our vision to life.
“Our plans include enhancing the menu, hosting community events, and making the pub a central hub for both locals and visitors.”
Christie & Co associate director Tim Widdows said: “The sale of The George & Horn generated a lot of interest, reflecting the positive market conditions and the pub's strong reputation.
“We are pleased to have facilitated this successful transaction and look forward to seeing the pub thrive under new ownership.”
