Village fireworks enjoys another successful year

A village fireworks display was back with a bang at the weekend.

The Chieveley Fireworks show returned for another successful event on Saturday, drawing a sell-out crowd of 1,900 people, who were treated to a display by the multi award-winning Illusion Fireworks.

Other attractions included a bonfire, burgers, bar, tea, cakes and a high number of entrants for the Guy competition, which, this year, was traditional and Buzz Lightyear themed.

The Guy competition was followed by a torch light procession to the bonfire, where the Guys were set alight.

"Impressive as always. Many thanks to the organisers and volunteers", wrote one visitor on Facebook. Another called it the "best fireworks I've ever been to".

The occasion was supported by around 60 local volunteers and all the proceeds are being invested back into the village hall to help fund its plans for a new children's playground in the New Year.

The Chieveley Fireworks show is believed to be the longest running village fireworks display in the UK.
