VIDEO: Driver fined after ignoring road closure sign and driving over wheelbarrow and scaffolding stanchion in West Berkshire
A driver has been fined after ignoring a temporary road closure sign and driving over a wheelbarrow in the road in West Berkshire.
A Thames Valley Police video shows a blue Toyota driving down the B4009 towards Streatley crossroads – just feet from scaffolding put up for repairs on The Bull Inn – after ignoring diversion signs and warnings the road was closed.
The video reveals the driver, whose face and numberplate are blurred, slowed down when approaching the upright wheelbarrow, before ploughing on regardless.
They knocked over the wheelbarrow and drove over the end of one of the stanchions holding up the scaffolding, ignoring the person filming, who queried: "What are you doing?"
The driver then continued on to the junction.
Thames Valley Police tweeted: “Please follow road signs.
“This driver has been given four points on his licence and fined £450 for ignoring a temporary road closure.
“Scaffolding was in place on this building in Streatley whilst it was being repaired but the driver ignored the diversionary route.
“Thankfully no one was injured but it could have been a different story.
“Road closures are there to protect the public and other road users.
“Please follow the signs or you could be putting lives in danger.”
