Newbury Town Council seek help to save Victoria Park bandstand
Newbury Town Council has asked for help to save Victoria Park’s iconic bandstand from going to ruin.
The park centrepiece, which has been there since 1937, is in need of a new roof as the current lead one is leaking.
The council has carried out some emergency repairs, but a new roof is needed to ensure the survival of one of Newbury’s most recognisable local landmarks.
Leader of the council Martin Colson (Lib Dem, West Fields) said: “The bandstand is home to a programme of Saturday and Sunday afternoon concerts throughout the summer.
“These and other popular events at the bandstand draw crowds into the park and the town centre.
“These events will be even more popular when the new community café opens in the park in spring 2023, so this is a great opportunity to get involved and help to ensure the bandstand can continue to be used in years to come.”
Newbury Town Council hopes to have completed both the bandstand restoration and the construction of Victoria Park’s community café in time for summer 2023.
They have already launched a fundraising project on The Good Exchange where every donation will be match funded by Greenham Trust - https://bit.ly/3vHRdJw
At the time of writing, the fundraiser has already gathered £8,250, 29% of its £27,715 goal.
The Council is also calling upon local businesses to see if they would like to discuss sponsorship opportunities. Those interested should email towncouncil@newbury.gov.uk
