Upset for West Berkshire residents after Milk and More announce changes to deliveries

FROM this Saturday, the company that delivers milk, diary and other produce to hundreds of households in Newbury and the surrounding area will only be accepting orders via email.

Milk and More announced that the changes will come into effect from April 24 and is urging everyone who currently receives a delivery to sign up for an online account to continue using the service.

The company said there are a number of benefits to moving online, including cheaper milk, access to exclusive online offers and the option to change or amend an order up until 9pm the evening before delivery.

However, some residents have contacted the Newbury Weekly News to express their concerns about the changes.

One person who will be particularly impacted is 70-year-old Mary Speake, who has been getting her milk delivered to her door three times a week, every week, for the past 20 years.

With no access to a computer, she fears she will no longer be able to use the service that she has relied on for the past two decades.

Ms Speake, who lives at Clifton Road in Newbury, said: “It is like everything now. If you don’t have a computer you are treated like a fifth rate person.

“I did speak to Milk and More about it, but I got the impression they weren’t really interested.

“All they say is if you don’t have a computer then get a family member or a neighbour to do it for you, but I don’t have any family in the area. They all live a long way away and I’m not married.

"Why should I have to give my neighbours my bank details to be able to get my milk?"

She added: “I used to have a computer until someone sent me an attachment and it stopped working properly.

“I also used to bank online and order things online years ago, but I just don’t trust it any more. There are some things I just don’t want to use online banking for.”

When asked what she will do if she's unable to get her milk delivered, Ms Speake said: “I will have to walk or get a bus, but the bus service from here is diabolical.

“The first bus in the morning, apart from the 7.55am, is 11.30am and the last bus home before 5.50pm is 1.50pm. It's either that or a cab."
