Newbury marks World Parkinson’s Day

MEMBERS and friends Newbury and District Branch of Parkinson’s UK gathered to mark World Parkinson’s Day.

The event happened on in Victoria Park on Saturday, April 12, and was attended by town mayor and mayoress Andy and Sheila Moore and West Berkshire Council chairman Billy Drummond (Lib Dem, Newbury Greenham).

Each year, the awareness day celebrates the global Parkinson’s community to show support for people living with the condition.

Alongside the charity’s website and national helpline, the regular in-person support activities organised by the branch offer a local lifeline to people at every stage of their Parkinson’s journey, 12 months of the year.

Newbury branch chairman Bruce Blaine said: “We thank Newbury Town Council for allowing us to hold this event to mark World Parkinson's Day and to increase awareness of Parkinson’s and how it affects people and their supporters.

“We were pleased to talk to people about the support we can offer through understanding and subsidised therapies.”

The mayor expressed his pleasure on behalf of the town council that they were able to provide this opportunity to raise the profile of Parkinson’s disease in the community.
