TikTok sensations kick off Newbury music venue season
ACE Space starts its new season of monthly gigs with two of the finest instrumentalists in traditional music, Will Pound and Jenn Butterworth, next Saturday, September 16. Will plays harmonica and melodeon and Jenn guitar and vocals.
A chance meeting at a folk session in 2018 led to Will and Jenn’s music travelling around the world as a viral TikTok sensation in lockdown.
In their live shows they play a game of ‘musical cat and mouse’; improvising and responding to each other, weaving virtuosic performances that are unique and in-the-moment as only two musicians highly accomplished in their craft can produce.
Will Pound is one of the finest harmonica and melodeon players of his generation, his musical prowess has been widely recognised including nominated 3 times for the BBC Radio 2 Folk Musician Of The Year Award and twice winning FATEA Magazine Instrumentalist Of the Year.
In his youth he was a member of Goldie’s Band: By Royal Appointment, an ensemble of exceptional young musicians convened for a 3-part BBC2 TV series of that name.
Will has toured across most of Europe and as far as Australia as a musician. In 2019 he embarked on a musical journey across all 27 EU member states, exploring the diversity and common ground in their traditional music and song.
Jenn Butterworth is one of the most notable folk guitarists in the UK acoustic music scene. In recent years she was awarded ‘Musician of the Year’ from the Scots Trad Music Awards and was nominated for the same title in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
She works with a range of high profile folk music projects, including Ross Ainslie and Ali Hutton’s SYMBIOSIS, award winning folk powerhouses Kinnaris Quintet, Treacherous Orchestra and Fiddlers’ Bid and, supergroup ‘Songs of Separation’. The album ‘Songs of Separation’ won the ‘Best Album’ at the Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2017.
Will Pound and Jenn Butterworth will be at ACE Space on Saturday, September 16. Doors open 7:30pm for an 8pm start. Tickets are £15 and available from www.WeGotTickets.com or direct by contacting events@acespace.org.uk or 078911 76940.
