Thatcham warms up for a snowy Christmas

Thatcham will be switching on its town centre Christmas lights very soon.

The Warming Up for Christmas event will start at 5pm tomorrow (Friday) as it counts down to its light switch on at 7pm.

There will be entertainment, a steam engine, food and drink and festive activities like a mini craft market and glitter tattoos.

There will even be a chance to see Santa and his sleigh courtesy of Newbury Lions.

And the town council has promised that we will see snow.

Gracing the Broadway beneath the festive weather will be Mrs Christmas, a giant elf and a Christmas Tree Fairy.

This year Thatcham will also be welcoming the Best Dressed Christmas Window in partnership with Newbury Weekly News – with a poll going live on our website Newburytoday tomorrow.

Mayor of Thatcham Mark Lillycrop said: “We like to think we have one of the best community switch-on events in the region and we encourage both our residents and those from further afield to attend.

“There will be so much going on, both on Friday evening and across the weekend, so please join us if you can.

“I am also looking forward to judging the best local dressed window display, which this year has a theme of sustainability so it will be interesting to see how our local businesses respond to that.”

The event is sponsored by Elysium Healthcare and Newbury Building Society.

Thatcham Broadway will be closed to traffic from 12.30pm.
