Thatcham garage destroyed by car
Driver taken to hospital
A garage in Thatcham was “pretty much destroyed” after a car crashed into it in the early hours of Sunday.
The driver of the vehicle is under police investigation.
Firefighters from Newbury were called at 2.30am to the address in Draper Close.
Crew manager Mike Wilson said that an Audi TT had come off The Moors and driven into the back of the double garage.
“The impact on the double garage has pretty much destroyed the double garage and the car,” he said.
“One wall has practically gone.”
Firefighters spent an hour securing the scene and making sure the area was safe.
The male driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital and no one else was injured.
A spokesman for the South Central Ambulance Service, David Gallagher, said that the driver had sustained a head injury and had got out of the vehicle when emergency services arrived.
After initial treatment, the driver was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading.
A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
He has been released under police investigation.
