Tadley boyband may have the X Factor
Five-piece band, Concept, (pictured) had taken time out of their European tour on May 5, to play at a Party on the Pitch at Barlow’s Park, Silchester Road, the home of Tadley Calleva FC.
The five performed at the May fundraiser in support of a Tadley family’s continued court battle for justice following the killing of their son in Greece in 2011, helping to boost funds to £5,500.
Robert Sebbage, aged 18, the son of Andy and Rhian Sebbage, of Weyhill Close, was stabbed to death while on holiday.
The band knew Robert from his schooldays at the Hurst Community College, Baughurst, and also at Queen Mary’s College, Basingstoke.
The money raised through the family’s Out of the Blue campaign – including at the May fundraiser – enabled them to return to Greece in July for a successful appeal against Greek taxi driver, Stelios Morfis’ original manslaughter sentence.
That verdict was overturned at the appeal when Morfis was found guilty of murder.
0n Sunday, Concept impressed X Factor judges during their audition.
The band include Tadley’s Ben Selley, the cousin of Harry Styles, a member of globally-famed boy band, One Direction, who also shot to fame after coming third in the 2010 X Factor finals.
Ben, aged 20, and his fellow band members, Matt Goodenough, Scott Dicks and Karim Newton all hail from Tadley, while the fifth member, Nathan Gittens, is from Basingstoke.
Mr and Mrs Sebbage said they watched the show and werenervous for them, but pleased and excited when they received yes votes from the entire judging panel.
Mrs Sebbage said: “We know how much they enjoy their music and we couldn’t have been more proud watching them perform.
“They are the nicest bunch of young men you could meet.
“We were honoured that they found time to take part in our Out of the Blue fund-raising events.
“On every occasion they acted in a professional way and gave time to all their fans – whatever we asked of them, nothing was too much trouble.
“Whatever the future holds, we would wish them all the best and hope they enjoy their journey and when they become famous hopefully they will have fond memories of playing to the local community on a football pitch!”
The band, who performed their rendition of Labrinth’s Earthquake, impressed judges, including Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, who said: “I love the fact that you are all friends and you’ve worked hard at it all.”
