Tadley and Pamber Green candidate – Richard Musson
The Green candidate for the Tadley and Pamber ward, Richard Musson, said he would be an “alternate voice” on the council were he to be elected.
There aren’t currently any Green councillors on the borough council, and Mr Musson, who has lived in the ward since he was five, said he would be free to “act in the environment’s best interest” without being influenced by other party members in the council or main party politics.
He said: “I would be the alternative voice, questioning every decision made – ensuring that it has been made with the best interests and holding the other councillors and parties to account, speaking up on behalf of my community.”
He added that standing for the Green party meant he wouldn’t “just say what people want to hear or what may win votes by jumping on the environmental bandwagon”.
“The Green party policies are a lot different to the other main parties," he added.
“If you want change then vote for a change.”
In his professional life, Mr Musson is a mechanical engineer, managing the production of “some of the finest timber windows and doors in the country”.
He continued: “It’s great to be involved in a sustainable product that helps insulate homes better and reduce the amount of energy required to heat our homes.
“I believe in sustainability and making our environment – the roads we use, the paths we walk, the houses we live in and the green spaces we use – as good as they can be.
“It is important to me to make the right decisions for the people and the environment.
“Yes, many more houses are needed, so they need to be built in the right locations and to the right standards. Transport links need to be considered as well as sustainability.
“There are two main things that can get us of out of the climate emergency – knowledge and technology – and unless we use and advance them nothing will change.”
