Students celebrate success at Newbury College
Former student welcomed back to give talk at graduation
NEWBURY College welcomed back one of its success stories this week to help celebrate the achievements of its current students at the college’s annual graduation ceremony.
Chief executive officer of Lloyd’s of London, Inga Beale, who attended the college in the 1980s, was guest speaker at the Higher Education Graduation and Further Education awards ceremony at the Monks Lane campus on Tuesday night.
Ms Beale, who is Lloyd’s first female chief executive, spoke to students about how her career has progressed since studying business studies at the old Newbury College site in Oxford Road.
The evening recognised students who achieved higher education qualifications, Level 4 and above, and further education students, who received awards to recognise their hard work and dedication to their courses.
The event also welcomed distinguished guests such as local mayors, governors and parents, who enjoyed a drinks reception and canapé refreshments, handmade by the college’s catering students, following the ceremony.
Newbury College principal, Dr Anne Murdoch OBE, said: “The Newbury College Graduation and FE Awards Ceremony is a celebration of the achievements of our hardworking students and staff and an opportunity for family and friends to recognise the successes of individuals.
“We are grateful to all those employers who sponsored the increased number of achievement awards for their support and generous donations.
“This year was particularly special for Newbury College as our guest speaker was Inga Beale, CEO of Lloyd’s and a former student of Newbury College.
“Inga presented certificates and awards to College Graduates and afterwards gave a truly inspirational speech to a packed audience about her career and about those who inspired her to be the very best in her industry.”
