Highclere Stud in Burghclere applies to build tourism huts and stables on grounds
A leading stud farm near Newbury has applied for planning permission to build tourist huts and more on its grounds.
Highclere Stud in Burghclere is hoping to expand its offering to visiting guests and customers with its latest plans.
The planning application – which was submitted on May 14 – states that the stud wishes to build an agricultural/equine implement store, stables and accompanying ancillary building, as well as five tourism shepherd huts.
The application states: “The shepherds huts will provide an ‘on brand’ experience for visiting guests and will diversify the businesses in a complimentary way.”
The huts will be positioned within a grassland meadow, provide single bedroom accommodation and each have their own parking space.
They, alongside the new stables, would be located to the south east of the existing stables and other facilities associated with the stud.

According to its website, Highclere Stud is one of the leading independent stud farms in the South of England.
The 300-acre facility has been operating since 1902 when it was established by Siddown Warren, the fifth Earl of Carnarvon.
The company remains in the Warren family to this day, now run by Jake, the eldest son of John and Carolyn Warren.
Since it was founded, Highclere Stud has produced a succession of derby, classic and champion racehorses, including Palace Pier, a highly successful runner who took home six major wins in his racing career and was regularly ridden by Frankie Dettori.
