Strong performance for Aldermaston and Wasing village show

Around 1,500 people attended the popular show at the Old Mill, which featured 104 competitions, traditional craft displays, flower arranging, falconry, ferrets and classic cars.
The event has its roots in 1943 during the second world war when some of the villagers decided to hold a competition to encourage everyone to dig for victory.
The show has grown over the years to include new events and pulling in the crowds was the new tug of war and strong man competition, organised by Craig Mullineux, who lives in Aldermaston Wharf.
There was also the ever popular duck derby and best dressed duck competition, won by Anna Tull, Oliver and William in the adult, and children’s categories.
Organiser, Peter Oldridge, said: “Despite the ominous weather forecast, attendance was slightly above 2012 at around 1500 and the rain held off until the very end of the day!
“We've had a record number of tributes and thanks, the only complaint seems to be that it only lasts for one day and takes place just once a year. For a little village show it was really quite successful.”
Mr Oldridge said that the amount raised from the show was still to be counted, but some of the proceeds will go to the Rainbow Rooms of the Newbury and District Cancer Care Trust.
