Teenage hero left fighting solo battle

FA CUP: Goalkeeper Moore shines as Hungerford make a timid replay exit on Tuesday night

Hungerford Town 1 Weymouth3

THE heroics of teenage goalkeeper Stuart Moore could not save Hungerford from making a disappointing FA Cup exit as they surrendered tamely in Tuesday night's Second Qualifying Round replay at Bulpit Lane.

The 17-year old pulled off a string of point-blank and acrobatic saves as he received scant protection from a Hungrford defence that had conceded only two league goals this season.

But Moore stood no chance with any of Weymouth's goals, the first coming after 12 minutes when the goalkeeper had denied Matt Groves from point-blank range but Warren Byerley swept up the rebound.

Hungerford levelled the scores five minutes later with a clinical finish from Luke Hopper, but it failed to inspire the expected lift and Groves soon punished more hesitancy at the back and only Moore kept the tie semi-alive before Groves struck again with eight minutes to play to earn his side a £4,500 pay-day and a trip to AFC Totton in the next round.
