Sport, entertainment and much more news – this week’s NWN

Newbury residents have reacted to the motoring madness that happened this week after West Berkshire Council sanctioned the closing of two of the town’s major roads.
Both the Boundary Road bridge and Crookham Hill were closed leading to wide spread traffic jams throughout the week.
Plans have been submitted for Northcroft surgery and St Mary’s surgery to move into a building in Old Bath Road.
If approved, all patients will be seen at Strawberry Hill House, however, the surgeries will remain separate.
Campaigners have demanded urgent action on a “danger road” after a fatal road crash.
Although there was no suggestion that speed was a factor in the crash, the Halfway Residents’ Group is calling for a 30mph limit to be introduced at the main junction points along the A4.
At least 25,410 Foodbank meals have been distributed less than a year since it was launched.
And the service has been so successful that plans are in the pipeline to roll it out to the east of the district.
Over in the districts, Spurcroft Primary School in Thatcham has applied to build six new classrooms on its site, the candidates for a vacant position on Hungerford Town Council have been announced and taxpayers in Tadley are to go to the polls to decide whether to approve a £250k loan towards a new youth centre.
In entertainment, we review A New York’s Winter Tale featuring Colin Farrell and Jennifer Connelly and find out who the big winners were in BURPS (Brimpton United Repertory Players Society) awards.
In sport, Hungerford manager, Bobby Wilkinson, says that his sides hopes of a play-off place have been rekindled after a 3-0 win on Saturday, Thatcham slide to their fourth successive defeat and Luke Harvey has a roundup of all your racing news.
On top of all this there’s the £25 free fuel giveaway, this week’s gig and what’s on listings and a competition to win dinner for four at JP’s Bistro at The Chequers.
What bargain at just 75p.
