Take a look inside Newbury’s new Primark store before it opens to the public
Primark will finally open its doors in Newbury tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.
The much anticipated arrival in Parkway Shopping centre will be open to the public from 10am.
But our photographer, Phil Cannings, has been given exclusive access to the store so we can bring you a sneak peek of what it looks like inside the new store.
Cian Gough, who has worked for Primark for 13 years after with the company as a Saturday job in Portsmouth, will be managing the new shop and said he was excited to open the doors to the Newbury public.
He spoke to Newburytoday ahead of the opening and promised that the Parkway Shopping store would offer the “latest and greatest Primark concept”.
“The store looks absolutely incredible and I can’t wait to unveil it,” he said.
“It won’t look anything, concept and fit-wise, like our neighbouring stores within a 30-mile radius.
“It is the latest and the greatest of the Primark concept.
“We are always looking, not only to provide great products, but to improve the shop and experience through how the customer actually feels and navigates the store.
“The feeling of it is very different, the equipment that we use makes for a much better shopping experience and allows us to create simpler and more effective lay outs.
“I love the way our Primark stores look now.”
With “more space and a better look and feel”, Newbury is also the first store in the UK offering click and collect on its opening day and people are already placing their orders to collect tomorrow.
Mr Gough said it will have everything you would expect of a Primark, with 25,000 sq ft of retail space over two floors, selling every product category.
Women’s clothing will also include its ‘edit’ range and there will also be menswear, children’s clothing, home, health and beauty, shoes and lingerie.
And its licenced product range will also be in store, with plenty from Disney, Krispy Kreme and a Guinness range which launches nationwide on opening day.
There will be served tills as well as self-checkouts, 11 changing cubicles, as well as a family changing room and accessible changing room.
Newbury will be Primark’s 197th store in the UK, after it opened the first one in Derby 50 years ago.
It now has 460 stores – 461 with Newbury – across the world.
Primark opens at 10am tomorrow (Tuesday), with a VIP tour for councillors and the mayor of Newbury before that.
A DJ will be making sure there’s “great vibes” throughout the day and anyone who buys anything on opening day will be given a free reusable shopping bag.
