Sir William Benyon dies





Sir William, who owned Englefield Estate after inheriting it from a cousin in 1964, was involved in many different local causes and interests.
He served as an MP for Buckingham from 1970 to 1983 and for Milton Keynes from 1983 too 1992.
He was a member of Berkshire County Council from 1964 until 1974, he was High Sheriff of Berkshire in 1995, Vice Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire from 1994 until 2005 and was a member of council at Reading University from 1967 until 2002.
On top of this, he was a governor at Bradfield College, chairman of governors at Englefield Primary School, former president of Newbury and District Agricultural Society and chairman and founder of the Englefield Charitable Trust.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, five children and 18 grandchildren.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 2.30pm in Englefield.
