M4 reopens between junction 14 at Hungerford and junction 15 at Swindon after fatal crash




UPDATE, 5.45pm: The M4 has now fully reopened after a fatal crash last night (Sunday).

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the collision which happened at around 9.40pm on the eastbound carriageway between junction 15 and junction 14.

A man in his eighties was struck as he was crossing the carriageway and has died from his injuries.

UPDATE, 12.30pm: The M4 has reopened in one direction after a serious incident last night.

The westbound carriageway, between junction 14 at Hungerford and junction 15 at Swindon, has now reopened.

But the eastbound carriageway remains closed at this time.

National Highways said it expected it to remain shut until around 6.15pm tonight (Monday).

UPDATE, 11.30am: The M4 is expected to remain closed for most of today (Monday) for crash investigation work, after a serious incident late last night.

National Highways has said it does not expect the road to reopen until around 5pm this evening.

The AA also reports that traffic on all surrounding roads, including Charnham Street in Hungerford and the A346 into Marlborough, are all currently very congested.

UPDATE, 6.50am: The M4 remains closed in both directions through part of West Berkshire this morning.

National Highways said it doesn’t expect the road to reopen until around 11.15am, as the police-led incident continues.

11.45pm: The M4 is currently closed due to a serious incident.

The motorway was shut at around 9.46pm, in both directions, between junction 14 at Hungerford and junction 15 at Swindon.

Thames Valley Police is leading a multi-agency response to the ongoing incident, with all emergency services currently at the scene.

National Highways has said that, “due to the serious nature of the incident,” the road is expected to remain closed throughout the night.

A diversion is in place.
