Trinity School in Newbury hosts MasterChef competition for talented young cooks




Trinity School hosted its 15th annual primary school MasterChef competition to see which schoolchildren were the best cooks in Newbury.

Teams of Year 6 students from various local primary schools planned, prepared and presented celebratory themed dishes.

The two winners of the competition will now go on to showcase their talents at the Newbury Show in September.

The first day of the competition took place on Monday, March 10, and Trinity hosted Speenhamland, Kintbury and Shaw Cum Donnington schools.

The students competed by making meals celebrating Valentine’s, the 150th anniversary of Shaw and Easter.

Speenhamland were victorious in Monday’s final with their “fantastic” meal celebrating the romantic celebration of Valentine’s Day.

The second day took place on Tuesday, March 11, with the competitors being students from Fir Tree, Hermitage, Stockcross and Welford and Wickham.

It was another very strong day with meals celebrating Easter, Valentine’s and American Independence Day, with the winners being Welford and Wickham with their “wonderful” 4th of July meal.

A Trinity spokesperson said: “Judging was very close on both days and we would like to thank all competitors and accompanying adults for their hard work and enthusiasm.

“Everyone who took part should be extremely proud of their achievements.

“Thank you to all staff who supported from all the schools and Jan Murray, education officer, and Pam Hillier-Brook from the Newbury and District Agricultural Society for judging the competition.”
