Fir Tree Primary School holds colour run to celebrate its 50th anniversary
Fir Tree Primary School held a colour run fundraising event last weekend to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary in the most fun and vibrant way possible.
Pupils, parents, staff and friends of the school all came together on a sunny Saturday afternoon for a family fun day that featured the colour run, as well as other activities and stalls.
In total 180 colour run participants ran around the school field while overcoming obstacles and being pelted with powder paint by spectators.
The race was staggered so that friends and family could watch each other complete the colourful challenge.
Head teacher of Fir Tree Lindsay Wood said: “It was a really lovely afternoon. The children and the adults that took part really enjoyed it.
“We had lots and lots of comments to say how enjoyable it was and asking if we would be doing it again.”
She also said that the school and its PTA hope to organise more community events like this in the future after the colour run’s success.
The event raised around £1,000 for the school, with Mrs Wood hoping to use the money to replenish the school’s library and invest in better educational technology.
Mrs Wood also said: “We decided that rather than sticking with the traditional summer fete, we would put on a colour run as it was something different.
“We wanted to get all our families back into the school celebrating together, and also we wanted to promote being active.
“We were delighted with the number of families that participated, not just from our school community, but also from the wider community as well.”
Organisations that had stalls at the event included Cats Protection, Lifestyle Fitness – who also did a warm-up for everyone before the colour run began – Usborne Books, Code Ninjas and many more.
There were also more typical fete stalls such as a raffle and a tombola.
Police officers also attended the school, giving children the chance to look inside their patrol car and also taking their fingerprints too.
