Calcot Schools hold carnival event and jubilee picnic

Calcot Schools put on their first annual carnival event since before the pandemic and it was their most impressive one yet, featuring a wide array of different activities and performances.

The infant and junior schools decided to combine the carnival celebrations, which took place on Wednesday July 6, with a jubilee picnic in honour of the Queen.

The school field was packed with families enjoying the festivities, which included performances from the children, as well as entertainers such as stilt-walkers, balloon modellers, hula hoopers and colourful dancers.

Year five teacher Annette Bevan said: “After two years of disruption it was a wonderful opportunity to bring the whole school community together and celebrate the musical talents of the children at Calcot Schools in a special jubilee carnival.

“We look forward to re-establishing this as an annual event of celebration.”

To celebrate Calcot Schools' artistic abilities, as part of an annual Creative Arts Week, the carnival kicked off with a rousing performance of the National Anthem, sung by the whole school community.

Following this, the Calcot Junior Choir performed sea shanties and some year two children sang songs from their current drama production.
