Friends of Bucklebury Primary School secure thousands in funding to replace outdated play equipment

A village primary school is raising money to update its outdoor play equipment.

Work started yesterday (Monday) to remove and replace the existing play equipment at Bucklebury Primary School, in Upper Bucklebury, to give pupils more opportunities to play at break times.

The Friends of Bucklebury School are still fundraising for the project and have been offered an additional £3,000 from the Peter Baker Foundation via Greenham Trust.

This, combined with £4,128 in fete money raised over the past two years, a Christmas toy hamper raffle and a £2,000 grant from WPA Foundation via TR Health in Worcester, means the school has now reached £9,250 of its £15,033 target.

Chair Sarah Belcher told newburytoday why the project is necessary: “The current trim trail has been in place for a substantial length of time and has reached the end of its useful life.

“With this area out of use, with areas taped off as unusable, there is not enough outdoor equipment to share between the different age groups.”

The new equipment will be in direct line of sight of three of the classrooms.

It is hoped the materials used will require minor maintenance and last for many years.
