Traffic in Newbury town centre as roadworks continue on Greenham Road, Boundary Road, Kings Road and Market Street
Traffic is building up in Newbury town centre as roadworks continue on several main routes.
Greenham Road is currently closed both ways from Racecourse Road to The Nightingales, leading to congestions on all the surrounding roads and at the Burger King roundabout.
This closure is in place at the same time as closures around Kings Road and Boundary Road.
Kings Road will be closed from its junction with Boundary Road to its junction with Hectors Way until December so SGN can replace a gas main.
Boundary Road will close to northbound traffic, with only southbound traffic permitted from its junction with Kings Road to its junction with Railway Road.
Motorists have be complaining all week of increased congestion on the roads around Greenham as the impact of both closures bites.
And next week a further closure is due to begin. Market Street will be shut from Monday, until Sunday, August 13, between the access road to West Berkshire Council’s offices and its junction with Mayors Lane.
This is for road surfacing work to take place.
Elsewhere, there are also still short delays on the A34 north of Newbury after an earlier crash.
One lane was closed for a few hours this morning after the crash on the northbound carriageway just after East Ilsley.
