Plans for new access into Newbury Retail Park and McDonald's drive-thru
DRIVERS wanting to pick up McDonald's from Newbury Retail Park could have their own dedicated lane under new plans.
F&C Commercial Property Holdings Ltd has applied to alter the entrance to the retail park and access into the McDonald's drive-thru.
Documents say that the proposals have been submitted to address congestion within the retail park and to improve traffic flow.
The scheme would result in reconfiguring the existing access road to two inbound lanes, one of which will be left-turn only into McDonald's.
The proposals also include a dedicated left-turn filter lane for vehicles accessing McDonald's separate from the left-turn lane into the west of the retail park.
Traffic assessments said that maximum queuing times were queues the retail park during peak hours (5pm to 6pm weekdays and noon to 1pm on Saturdays).
The weekday peak delay of 9.88 seconds would be reduced to 5.67 seconds with the new layout, while the weekend delay would drop from 14.08 seconds to 6.88.
Traffic data submitted with the application said there had been five personal injury accidents around the retail park within the last five years
The review concluded that the accidents were not attributed to the layout or design of the road.
