Report graffiti and fly tipping to community officers as part of new campaign

North Hampshire residents are being encouraged to look out for issues affecting their communities such as graffiti, fly tipping and overhanging vegetation as part of a new council-run campaign.

Over the next two months, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s community safety patrolling officers (CSPOs) will be hitting the streets and working closely with residents as part of their Notice Your Neighbourhood campaign.

The campaign aims to raise awareness, identify areas for improvement and to work with partner organisations, businesses and residents to find sustainable solutions.

The team will act on problems that have been reported either through feedback from community surveys or directly with the council.

They will also encourage new reports of antisocial behaviour and environmental issues affecting communities and will work with residents to find solutions.

Residents will be able to report problems they notice in their communities by using a QR code displayed on posters around the borough.

The CSPOs will also conduct visible patrols in communities and will aim to talk with residents to gather information and concerns about the area in which they live.

Cabinet member for partnerships Jenny Vaux said: “Helping to keep our residents safe is one of the council’s top priorities and although our CSPOs are great at spotting issues when they are patrolling, it is also really important to hear from residents about antisocial behaviour which may be affecting their community.

“We can’t help with everything, but there are plenty of things we can help to resolve.

“Please contact us if you spot dog fouling, graffiti, or fly-tipping, in fact anything that is causing you concern.

“If we can’t tackle the issue ourselves, we will refer it on to the organisation that can.”
