Queues building around Newbury and Hungerford due to M4 and A339 closures
There are heavy delays on roads around Newbury and Hungerford today as weekend road closures bite.
The M4 between Hungerford and Newbury in both directions is shut from 9pm last night (Friday) until 6am, at the latest, on Monday morning – forcing traffic onto the A34, A4 and the B4000 between Shefford Woodlands and Newbury.
The A34 southbound between the M4 junction and Newbury is currently crawling, with AA reporting delays of eight minutes and increasing.
There are severe delays in both directions of the A4 meanwhile between Newbury and Hungerford, while those looking to avoid the A4 and go via Hoe Benham are also likely to get caught in traffic.
Radley Bottom, running from Hungerford Newtown to Radley, is also slow.
Those coming off the M4 meanwhile at junction 14 for Hungerford or 13 for Newbury are also likely to get stuck in traffic as the slip roads clog up.
The A339 from the Swan roundabout to the Tesco roundabout is also closed this weekend, causing delays on Monks Lane near Newbury Rugby Club and Andover Road near Park House School.
