Power outage hits Newbury and areas of West Berkshire
A power outage has hit a large area of Newbury this morning (Wednesday).
The power cut affected homes and buildings from Park Way down to Kings Road and the majority of Winchcombe Road, temporarily closing Sainsbury's and the Corn Exchange.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks has said the the outage is unplanned and has apologised for the loss of supply.
It has been reported that the Sainsbury's petrol station on Andover Road has been turning away customers wishing to fill up their vehicles. Its store has been operating as usual.
A spokesperson said: "We have had power outages since quarter past 11 today. It is now on and off.
"The store is open and has been trading all the way through but our fuel pumps are not."
She said that the petrol pumps were not in operation due to "health and safety concerns relating to the power cut" and has said that they are hoped to reopen "as soon as possible".
A power outage has been reported in Calcot at 1.44pm from Radbourne Road down to the Holybrook Linear Park.
An engineer has visited the site and the power has been restored according to the SSEN website.

The SSEN website showed 27 postcode areas in Newbury were affected this morning and early afternoon.

It has since reported that an engineer is on site and the situation is improving with the number of affected postcodes down from 27 to 5.
Another outage has been reported up to Northbrook Street. SSEN aimed to restore power by 2.30pm today and has reported that power has been restored.
The Corn Exchange, which was hit by the power cut said: "Our power is back on and the building has reopened. We thank you for your patience."
