Police to showcase its crimefighting secrets with annual open day event in Sulhamstead
A chance to go behind the scenes of Thames Valley Police is coming thanks to its annual open day.
Its training centre in Sulhamstead will be the venue for the free event.
Last year, more than 4,000 people visited, and enjoyed discovering more about the force and what it does.
Visitors last year met puppies who will become police dogs, heard the Thames Valley Police Vocal choir, enjoyed displays from the Tactical Cycle Team and mounted horse section.
There were displays from regional fire and rescue teams, forensics, the National Police Air Service and a vintage car display.
Classrooms usually used for rookie recruits offered interactive learning, complete with VR headsets.
These were used to demonstrate how officers use drone footage to help their investigations.
In all, there were more than 50 exhibits for people to explore, as well as arena shows.
This year’s event runs from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, September 7, with last entry at 3.30pm.
There is no need to book tickets, people can just go along on the day.
Thames Valley Police has more information on its website www.thamesvalley.police.uk
The event takes place in the open air, and the force asks people to go prepared for all weather conditions.
As the Sulhamstead training centre is off the A4 Bath Road, there is no direct public transport. Parking will be available on site.
