Police step up patrols in Newbury following spate of thefts

Residents urged to remain vigilant

NEWBURY residents are being reminded to remain vigilant following a spate of thefts and burglaries in the town.

Thames Valley Police have stepped up patrols while also issuing tips and advice on crime prevention.

The incidents in question include a burglary in Arthur Road where offenders stole a shower and cleaning equipment between Wednesday, April 13 and Thursday, April 14.

On Sunday, April 17 there were two incidents of theft from vehicles in Berkley Road.

The first saw thieves take a handbag and its contents, while coins that had been on clear display were stolen in the second.

Another incident occurred overnight on Monday, April 18 when burglars targeted a property in Harvest Green and a laptop and tablet were stolen.

Det Insp Mark Carolan of Local CID at Newbury said: “There is no obvious pattern or link to these opportunistic crimes.

“We are investigating and doing everything we can to bring the offenders to justice.

“We have increased patrols in the area and I would like to remind residents of our crime reduction and prevention advice.
