British Transport Police confirm Saturday's incident was a fatality on the line near Westbury, in Wiltshire




Train services were cancelled near Newbury on Saturday after a person was hit by a train.

All services between Taunton in Somerset and Reading, including trains through Newbury, were either cancelled, delayed or diverted after the incident.

British Transport Police has now confirmed that the incident took place near Westbury in west Wiltshire.

It said in a statement: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Westbury at 3.01pm on Saturday, April 30, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

The person has yet to be publicly identified.
