Person pronounced dead near Thatcham Railway Station

A person has died near Thatcham Railway Station.

All lines between Reading and Newbury were delayed, cancelled or forced to divert this morning (Wednesday) as emergency services responded to an incident near Thatcham in the early hours.

Police have now confirmed a fatality on the tracks.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line near Thatcham Railway Station at around 3.30am following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

GWR has confirmed all lines have now reopened.
