Should Station Road be closed to traffic?

Newbury’s Station Road could be permanently closed to traffic.

The town council will discuss next week (Monday) whether to make the street – which has been closed to motor vehicles since the pandemic to encourage active travel – permanently restricted.

The council’s planning and highways committee will decide whether to suggest any minor amendments, or revert it back to a one-way road.

The restriction is in place between its junctions with Bartholomew Street and Link Road with no vehicular access to any properties or land within its restricted length.

The proposal is now subject to a public consultation, with a final decision on the matter to be taken by West Berkshire Council in April 2023.
