Plans submitted for three-storey, 68-bedroom care home to be built in Tadley
Plans for a three-storey, 68-bedroom care home to be built in Tadley have been submitted to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.
The care home, which would be built on land currently occupied by 8a and 10 Mulfords Hill, would be operated by Boutique Care Homes, a small, independent provider that already runs two homes in the UK with a third currently in development.
The planning application was submitted to the council on May 5.
According to planning documents, Boutique’s objective is to “deliver the highest quality home that provides a home-from-home feel for residents with the very best modern and safe facilities”.
The documents also state: “We want our developments to make a positive contribution to the local fabric and stand the test of time, while maintaining a flexibility which encourages staff and residents to use the building innovatively, finding the most fulfilment possible and creating many happy memories.
“We firmly believe care home residents should enjoy their later years in maximum comfort and our developments consider every possible detail to make this a reality.”
Some who live in Tadley have already voiced their views on the potential development, with many objecting on the grounds that there isn’t sufficient enough infrastructure in the town to cope with it and that the care home would increase traffic problems in the area.
Laura Nash, of Gorselands, said: “We cannot cope with the infrastructure in place for people who already live here and adding more people without increasing the doctors, schools and dentists will cripple what is already in crisis.”
Several other Gorselands residents have also objected, stating that the care home would infringe on their privacy.
Gorselands is a cul-de-sac just north of the proposed Mulfords Hill site.
Karen Jeffery, also of Gorselands, said: “This is a monstrous, ugly building not remotely in keeping with the area and will significantly change the feel of local landscape.
“There will be heavy goods deliveries in and out, visitors, medical and allied professionals.
“The impact this will have on my neighbours directly overlooked and overshadowed by the three-storey building, is immense.”
However, some Tadley residents do support the care home proposal.
Nicole Larkin, of Hillcrest, commented: “A care facility will mean people with health care problems are being cared for and hopefully ease a strain on local doctor surgeries, with health issues being prevented and managed rather than escalated.
“It will provide an option for the growing elderly population in Tadley and surrounding areas and it may enable some Tadley residents to stay on in the area if they need care.”
