Pictures from Good Friday Walk of Witness in Newbury
Christians in Newbury came together on Good Friday for the annual Walk of Witness to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
The event started at around 11am with a service at St Nicolas Church in Bartholomew Street.
The congregation of around 100 people then headed outside into the glorious sunshine, following the large, wooden cross – imitating the journey that Jesus took carrying his cross through the streets of Jerusalem.
The attendees crossed Bridge Street and then headed up Northbrook Street, stopping just before the bollards to sing hymns and hear readings and reflections of Jesus’s last hours.
The group then continued up the high street to Newbury Methodist Church, where they sang more hymns and had refreshments.
Walks or Marches of Witness are a national event, held each year on Good Friday and designed to bring people together from churches across Newbury to remember the Easter message.
